Episode 047 – Rick Ankiel, Zaradasht Ahmed, Seth Greenleaf
Rick Ankiel is a former pitcher and later center fielder in Major League Baseball. After breaking as a 20 year old phenom with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1999, he had an inexplicable loss of control in the third inning of Game 1 of 2000 National League Division series. The following year after continuing struggles he found himself out of the majors for nearly six years. He then returned as a power-hitting outfielder and joined Babe Ruth as the only players in history to win at least 10 games as a pitcher and also 50 home runs. It is all detailed in his new memoir The Phenomenon: Pressure, The Yips, and The Pitch That Changed My Life.
Zaradasht Ahmed is a Kurdish-Norwegian filmmaker who recently won Best Documentary Feature at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) for his powerful portrayal of conflict in Iraq Nowhere To Hide.
Seth Greenleaf is a Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning producer (2013, Best Revival of a Play – Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf) who made the leap into directing with the documentary feature F(l)ag Football – which chronicles a competitive gay football team.
