I love movies, and I love the Oscars. I’m not a big fan of AMPAS and it’s culture, but I do enjoy the pomp and circumstance surrounding film’s biggest night. It’s the 90th anniversary this year and two nominees are on the show: Agnes Varda – nominated for Best Documentary Feature – Faces, Places – and subsequently set the record for oldest nominee at 89 years old. She also was awarded an honorary lifetime Oscars at the Governors Awards in November.
Ziad Doueiri was a camera assistant under Quentin Tarantino and has made films in Arabic, French, and English. His debut film – West Beirut – was considered a masterpiece. His latest, The Insult is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, from the country of Lebanon. He talks about the film, Tarantino, and making films in the Middle East
